When price rises, mining gets more profitable, so hashpower comes online and hashrate climbs.

Difficulty re-targets every 2,016 blocks (~2 weeks) to hold ten-minute blocks, so it tracks hashrate with a short delay.

The catch · The mechanical, reliable link — difficulty is an exact protocol response to how fast the last blocks arrived.

More hashrate at a given efficiency means more energy per coin, lifting the electricity cost of production.

The catch · The floor is reflexive, not fixed — it falls to meet price during miner capitulation, so it bounds price only softly.
